Metalcore is a subgenre of metal music that combines elements of traditional metal and hardcore punk.  In this piece, I wanted to try and capture the essence of metal music -- the rawness, the energy -- without attempting to outright mimic the style.  Ultimately, a metal band is the best ensemble to play metal music, so instead I chose to explore the (perhaps) more nuanced elements of the genre.  Still, should a pit open up at its next performance, I won't be disappointed.
