BIOGRAPHY
Jonathan Wyatt is a composer and conductor whose musical works often explore conceptualism and storytelling. He has composed for such ensembles as the Grammy-winning eighth blackbird, JACK Quartet, Roomful of Teeth, and many more. Jonathan is particularly interested in composing music that blurs the boundaries of form and medium and is influenced by a number of visual artists, including Damien Hirst and Maggi Hambling. Currently some of his favorite musicians are John Prine, Thundercat, Supertramp, and Bohuslav Martinů.
Jonathan has been a fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival, the Red Note New Music Festival, the Lake George Composition Institute, and was the winner of the 2024 NYC SongSlam Commission Prize from Sparks & Wiry Cries. In the Spring of 2025, he will be the Composer-In-Residence at Longwood University in Virginia. Jonathan holds a Bachelor's in Music from Shenandoah Conservatory and a Master’s in Music from the Mannes School of Music at The New School. After school, his first job was as personal assistant to composer Philip Glass, where he worked daily with the esteemed composer and accepted every bit of sage wisdom passed down along the way. Jonathan is now freelancing in New York City and documenting all composer-activities on his social media pages, which can be followed @ComposerJon.
