Internal Affairs
for string quartet
Program:
In 1991, English conceptual artist Damien Hirst debuted his first solo show in London, called Internal Affairs. Among the works’ many themes were those of corporate dehumanization, our fear of death, and accepted servitude. In my piece, I apply this sense of corporate surrealism to a mysterious pharmaceutical company which is testing its creations on unknowing participants. At the heart of the work are these questions: Where do our products come from? Who are the people that make these decisions? Are we in control?
